Human trafficking is gaining attention both nationally and locally. LATTE members Becca & Bob discuss human trafficking with Steve Hertzog of the Lawrence Business Journal on the January 9th KLWN podcast
Sex trafficking occurs when any person is forced to perform sex acts against their will and threatened or abused if they try to leave. This sex act can be exchanged for anything of value including food, shelter or money.
If the person being trafficked is younger than 18 years of age, then being forced or coerced is not required, it is automatically sex trafficking.
Labor trafficking occurs when any person is forced to work long hours with little or no pay, and is either threatened or abused if they want to leave.
